Kidsgrove back in action

Following a friendly game and 3 league games the club has had a positive return to competitive over the board chess. Not forgetting the COVID risks our league matches are played wearing a mask. Even better news is we have been able to welcome our new player Jim. The new new venue has attracted other interest.

All fixtures and results are available on the League Management System link.

Steve Burndred

The Club is sad to announce the passing of Steve Burndred.

Steve had played for Kidsgrove for over 30 years until his long term illness denied him the opportunity to play his beloved Chess . Steve had been missed at the chess club for some time. Our Thoughts are for Janet, Matthew and Gareth.

Kidsgrove Chess Club has played in the NSDCA Online competition which was a series of 5matchesplaying 2 games per night  (25 minutes on the clock) After a difficult start the team won their final match 8-0.

Special thanks to David Hulme of Crewe Chess club who spent a lot of time and effort setting this up.

As there is no Over the Board chess likely in the coming months another attempt will be made in the new year to set up another set of fixtures. Anyone interested please contact the club. Keep an eye for further posts as the situation develops.

Kidsgrove have begun playing matches . This is despite no face to face activity due to the continuing COVID restrictions.  This is due to an online chess competition being set up by Crewe Chess Club.  This uses the online chess product called "LICHESS" which is free to download. The club played its first match online against Crewe . Crewe were victorious 6-2. However it was a new experience and the club will take part in further matches in the coming weeks.

Season End 18/19

The 18/19 Ended with Dave Johnson winning the Roy Bennett trophy which is our internal competition where all players play each other.. (All results on the League Management System)

The league games in the NSDCA Div4 were finished a bit later than expected due to rearranged matches cancelled earlier in the year taking place. A steady finish in what was a difficult few months as our  membership went through some changes and thanks to the energy of our new member we kept a full team going.

As the new season approaches the club would like to attract new members.  Please contact us if you are interested and any level of ability is welcome. The summer is a good time to come have ago whilst there are no formal matches taking place.  There is no charge to come and try some chess.

We have our AGM on the 9/7/19.  I will update after the outcome.
